Hello Sheila,

Thank you for this submission.

I have heard of many cases like this one. Many new onset severe diarrhea cases sound similar. I can't tell you what exactly is happening with your sister because I didn't get a chance to test her.

Most of my patients that describe the same type of diarrhea usually have some sort of parasitic infection which I as a Functional medicine practitioner almost always address and conventional medicine practitioners almost never address.

It could also mean that your sister's immune system is very weak and it causes her gastrointestinal system to flare and overreact with diarrhea.

No matter what the cause is at this time she needs help. You can ask the doctor to test her stool. If the doctor doesn't offer that I can have an appointment with her on the phone and send her a home kit-stool test.

Don't be fooled if her symptoms get better and she doesn't want to address this issue again. Sometimes symptoms of parasitic infections subside but they still cause terrible problems for immune system silently.

Let me know if you need additional help.
