Hello and thank you so much for this question as I was asked this type of question many, many times.

Yes, ileostomy reversal operation can have many unpleasant and bothersome reactions. And some people even report feeling worse than before. True. But so many more people are feeling just fine and they are feeling much better about themselves aesthetically. It's very much a psychological issue as well.

You are probably also very nervous about an upcoming procedure and you are having your doubts because you read reviews of those people that don?t do well afterwards. But there may be many other patients very happy after the procedure that just too busy to sit down and write their positive experience on the forums because they finally got their normal life back.

It's very tricky and tough to be in your shoes and make this decision.

Yes, there are many very difficult days, weeks and even months for some people after the ileostomy reversal but you know what there are plenty that do very well afterwards including my nephew. Yes, I heard that some people have trouble digesting after the procedure, so take some digestive enzymes for meantime. Some people develop rashes afterwards so you'll take some immune system modulators and probiotics so the chances of those will decrease. What you must do is decide for yourself if you are ready. Once you make you decisions take a deep breath and stick with it and feel good about your decision.

Don't forget I do phone wellness consultations. Chronic patients do so well with Functional medicine methods. I am in full remission because of it. Just contact me on the Contact Us Page . Don't forget to mention the reason for contact.

I wish you best of luck with whatever you decide. We will all send you good energy for you to be strong.

I would love for my readers to share their opinion on this matter. What do you think about ileostomy reversal operation?

Best, Inna

ILLEOSTOMY REVERSAL
by: Mears

I had my illeostomy reversed 8 months ago after having a bag for 5 years due to complications in the form of a fistula.

Rather naively I assumed that I'd be back to somewhere near normal after a month or so, but this has not been the case. A dozen trips to the loo and frequent soiling of under garments are not unusual. Fortunately I don't work so it's not a problem when at home or on short visits out, however going on holiday or nights entrapped in a theatre seat are stressfull to say the least.

For anyone wanting to 'get their life back' in terms of being able to go to work or go out socially it may be better to go down the permanent colostomy route.

My consultant has told me that whatever position I'm in after one year will probably be the template for the future. Only 4 months to go so I'm not that confident about returning to a managble lifestyle, but improvements are slow. I take Loperamide with varying results even after 8 months.

Ileostomy Reversal
by: valerie

I had an emergency operation in Ibiza for peritinitus and had to have an ileostomy due to a torn colon and diverticulitus.

8 weeks later I had a reversal and can honestly say it was the best thing ever.

Due to the position of the bag (very close to my tummy button ) I had constant leaks.

Every night I was changing 2-3 time and in a dreadfull state.

Since the reversal I had at first the oposite to most of the people as I have been very constipated.

This now seems to be getting better and apart from my tummy still being swollen I am doing fine.

I can only think that I am very lucky and that my surgeon was fantastic.

I feel so sorry for those who are having problems and hope that they too can have a good outcome.
