Where Is Hidden Gluten?
Hidden Gluten. Allergy To Gluten? What To Expect With Gluten Problems. How To Manage Gluten Free Travel.
I was researching cases with horrible gluten sensitivities and gluten allergies. Some patients don’t show gluten intolerance until they are really sick with intestinal disorders like ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Celiac disease IBS, etc. Gluten intolerance is one of the most under diagnosed health conditions now. But it gets even worse. Many patients that actually have gluten allergy and try to follow gluten free diet are up for a big surprise.
There are different reactions that people experience when they stop gluten. Some patients feel much better right away. Some feel withdrawal symptoms for a few weeks and then feel better. But some don’t feel better, even after a few months. And that could be patients with true gluten intolerance. Why won’t they feel better on gluten free diet? That’s because there’s hidden gluten everywhere and they are consuming it.
Allergy to gluten? Have gluten sensitivity symptoms? Gluten free means avoiding ALL foods that includes gluten like wheat, rye, barley, spelt, kamut, bulgur, couscous, semolina and durum flour. Oats are probably Ok, but the jury is still out on this one.

Gluten can be hiding in so many prepared foods and products like sauces, gravy etc.
Eating out gluten free and gluten free travel can be very stressful if you are not prepared. You need to stay away from anything that’s cooked with sauces, dressings, and creams (unless specified Gluten Free). The best advice for easy gluten free travel is to make sure you get your meat, eggs and fish steamed or boiled (no sauces) and your carbohydrates are veggies and salads (raw or steamed) with just olive oil and lemon.
Make sure to mention to the waiter that you need your meals gluten free.
Many restaurants accommodate patients with gluten sensitivity symptoms nowadays. We went to Disney world and even had gluten free pizza in Italian restaurant. And it was great.
Of course it’s best to cook at home. It’s not always possible to many busy families. Read labels and watch out.

Yes, make up and lipsticks could be a problem, too. One of the patients told me that he changes his diet to 100%gluten free but he would still have gluten sensitivity until read that there is gluten containing ingredients in makeup. Yes, make up. His wife changed her lipstick to gluten free brand of lipsticks by Ann Marie Borland and he improved tremendously. What doctor would have ever thought of that?
