Budenofalk and pregnancy

Hi!

I'm new to this forum and hope I can share some experiences and also get some tips! I was diagnosed with crohn's in 2004 and had one flare-up after another and had long treatment with steriods. I hadn't had a flare-up since last June (over a year). We had been planning a pregnancy but now another flare-up has started. My doctor has prescribed Budenofalk. Has anyone taken this when pregnant? I so wanted to be medication-free when trying to get pregnant but the diarrhoea and stomach pain are getting worse, so I have to nip it in the bud before i get a full flare-up...I would be interested to hear from anyone who has been or is on this medication...can I still try to get pregnant? It says on the packet should be avoided but I have read on the Internet lots of people take it when pregnant...

Thanks

Kirsty

Hello Kirsty,

Welcome to this forum.

For many of my readers this drug (Budenofalk) is called Budesonide or Entocort.

More information on it here:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000434

I have spoken to some patients that used this particular medication during pregnancy and did fine.

As the package insert suggets: It is to be used with caution in pregnant women. But it's not contraindicated for them.

It's really up to your doctor to decide this.

But do tell your doctor that you are planning to get pregnant.

I do wellness consultations for many of my readers and they improve greatly. If you are interested, contact me on the CONTACT US page.
I do international consultations as well.

Best, Inna
